Life is busy. Life happens and at some point along the way, we all will need some level of support. I have been the recipient of much guidance and support throughout my life as well as one who has provided the support for others.
So what brought me here?
I always knew I wanted to work with people— that was at my core— but in what capacity, I was uncertain. In high school, I worked with students with a vast range of skills and abilities, as I had this strong affinity towards connecting with and helping others. This love for others continued as I pursued my psychology degree at the University of Texas in Austin, TX. One day while reading through the UT Daily Texan newspaper, I stumbled across an employment ad inquiring about a psychology student in need of employment who would be a good fit to care for an elderly woman experiencing short term memory loss. I made that call and the rest was history. I was blessed beyond words to be offered an opportunity to support an amazing individual in caring for his elderly wife who experienced short term memory loss. This experience came about during such a fragile time of life-- and was beyond perfect timing, as the relationship shared between these two individuals exuded authentic love and raw emotions, demonstrating what it means to live a life of compassion, honesty and loyalty-- with yourself and others. This was the start of a journey that continued to develop, with the desire to serve others with integrity, compassion and respect. We model what we see-- and this concept- amongst many other factors was taken with me from this initial experience.
After graduating UT, I explored other areas within the psychology realm--I went back and forth between focal areas and decided to pursue vocational rehabilitation counseling. This field of counseling appealed to me as its focal point included every aspect of life, from the emotional, physical, mental, social, psychosocial and vocational aspects of life. The Whole person.
I obtained my Master’s of Science degree at the University of North Texas in Rehabilitation Counseling and obtained employment as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. I’ve now been employed with this agency for over 17 years serving both the adult and transition population. I’ve been blessed with serving this population and their families and have learned tremendous lessons about the value of connection, support and guidance, for each and every action not only impacts our individual lives but also the lives of others. We are all connected— we are connected as a whole.
This sense of us as a whole, begins with our individual self.
The journey of life begins within— change begins within— for each and every person. And this is why I love this field. There is so much empowerment in these words-- in the idea that we are all connected, we are all one-- but yet, it all begins within ourselves-- and we have the ability to create huge personal transformations-- which ripples over into other aspects of our lives.. from our family life to our community to those beyond. This energy impacts all of those within our circle—our tribe of life. #rippleEffect
This is what brought me here today. My journey, my experiences and the importance of seeing health as a wholistic practice that focuses on our entire being; our mind, our body, and our soul.
How we reconnect with our sense of self, how we cope, heal and thrive varies from person to person, for it is not a one size fits all when it comes to the healing and growth process. What works one day may not be the best method tomorrow and this is true for life.
I am an enthusiast for mind-body practices and would like to bring these different techniques to you within a safe and welcoming space.
We will practice together, learn together and grow together.
